Placement Test Requirements

Students Admitted to Rutgers-Camden:

English

English placement testing is required of all First-Year Students who received an SAT (formerly verbal) score of less than 500 or less than a 24 on the ACT. First-Year Students may also be exempt if they are awarded credit through the Advanced Placement Program (AP).

English placement testing is required of all Transfer Students who have not successfully completed a transferable college-level English composition course. Information on the transferability of English Composition courses from New Jersey community colleges is available at www.njtransfer.org.

Math

Math placement testing is required all First-Year Students who have received an SAT score of less than 600 or less than a 27 on the ACT.  First-Year Students may also be exempt if they are awarded applicable credit through the Advanced Placement Program (AP) for pre-calculus or calculus. 

Math placement testing is required for all Transfer Students who have not successfully completed a transferable college-level mathematics course with a 640-course prefix (not statistics or computer science). Information on the transferability of mathematics courses from New Jersey community colleges is available at www.njtransfer.org.

Foreign Language

All students pursuing degrees in the College of Arts and Sciences at Rutgers-Camden must fulfill a foreign language requirement.  Students must take a placement test in the appropriate language to determine which course to take.  Foreign Language exams are offered in French, German and Spanish.
